Approach to Treatment:
I believe that the best therapeutic relationship is one that is mutually developed between a therapist and a client according to the unique needs of the client. I will endeavor to create a safe and non-judgmental environment in which you may explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences from your life. I believe that change occurs when you are able to understand and accept your experiences in a new way that enables you to make effective life choices. In general, I utilize psychodynamic principles meaning that I integrate past childhood and family history with current issues to fully understand your experience. In addition, I also use family systems theory in understanding the patterns that develop in relationships and in helping clients to change those patterns. I also draw from existential psychology, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and other orientations to inform my approach when working with clients. While we may focus on perceived problems in your life, I believe that it is also helpful to learn from your strengths and successes and to examine what is going well in your life.
Modes of Treatment:
I am a generalist and enjoy working with a wide variety of clients, modes of treatment, and issues. Although I am trained in child and family work, I work primarily with adults and older adolescents at this time. I'd be happy to speak with you about what might be the best fit for your concerns.
